This is best done at the end of the day before bed, not when you get up, contrary to the belief of many people.

If you have very bad posture or are experiencing health problems as a result of your poor posture, then you should consult a medical practitioner for advice or help. There may be exercises specific to your condition that can help, or you may need some physiotherapy to build the muscles you need before you start working on your posture for by yourself.
