Apple Watch Series 3, Review and Specifications

Before I take you through the review of Apple  Watch series 3, I would want you to see a rough comparison between the latest series 5 and a later one series 4 too in this following table.

Apple Watch is almost a dream smart watch for all Apple users. When Apple Watch series1 was launched it was one of the “Must Get” bucket listed products. The watch was super stylish and came with such mouth opening features. Like any other Apple product this watch added a class to user’s personality.

By the end of the article you will know whether still buying Apple Watch series 3 is a good deal or not when we already have other top-notch smart watches including the two latest updated Apple Watch 4 and Apple Watch 5 on the lane.

No matter what are your requirements always check for the look, feature and price and then choose a deal that best matches your budget. Usually I suggest my friends and family to judge an over expensive products based on these three criteria.

Major difference between Apple Watch 3 v/s Apple Watch 4 and Apple Watch 5 are:

Apple  Watch 3 was launched right after Apple  Watch 1 was done and to me, that was it. It had a better OS, looks and features but with the launch of Apple Watch series 3, series 2 was removed by Apple. Though the price of these two series were quite afar, but after looking at the Apple Watch series 3, one would be a fool to still want to go for series 1. So, it (Apple Watch 3) all started with (Rs. 23,650+) and now the current price is

Rs. 23,900 for (GPS, 42mm)

Rs. 20,900 for (GPS, 38mm)

Classic Features

While there might be a slight difference in price with strap colour.

Apple Watch series 3 showcases a solid rectangular body with a digital charm and an only button towards the right, with this there is a microphone and speaker on left. It’s a complete waterproof smart watch with around 45-50m and an Ion-X Glass on top for a prefect display. The GPS and cellular model are differentiated with a red mark on the digital crown.

The Apple watch series 3 has almost all the features that any Apple watch has. Right from heart rate monitor to OLED Retina display. The only thing that an Apple watch series 3 lacks from Apple watch series 5 is Electrical Heart Sensor (ECG) and International SOS calling. Rest in terms of features I find both the smart watches to be giving a tough competition to each other.

Budget Watch 

When we talk about branded watch, the only thing that we look at is their series and features because no matter which series you wear, it must meet your requirements and must also do justice to your whole lot of money spent.

But on a very personal note I think, if your budget for a smart watch is around 20k then spending another 15k just to get the latest series for the sake of new  features isn’t worth it, but if you are going for looks and comfort in terms of dial thickness and display undoubtedly Apple watch series 5 cuts in. Because not just it has amazing display to die for, but it came as a boom for all the series Apple has launched so far.

The display comparison of Apple watch series 3 and series 5 is very tangible. But when you look at the pictures available in the Apple ’s official website (https://www.apple.com/in/watch/compare/#footnote-5) for a detailed comparison you will realize why the display has a major role in series 5 and  what was lacking in series 3.

Size is all that matters 

When you compare 44mm display area of Apple watch series 5 with 42 mm display area of Apple watch series 3, you will see for yourself the difference that both the series has to offer. The major issue I faced with series 3 was a very smaller window for the screen and that’s where Apple watch series 5 is class apart from any series that Apple has to offer.

But again, paying 15k extra just for the screen is it really worth it? I personally think that it all depends upon the person, for me series 3 will work as perfectly as series 5 so I will spend rest 15 k on my other gadgets that can be upgraded because 0f this. But this is a very personal decision that one has to make when it comes to budget and priorities.

Talking About much difference in Series

The next thing that I found comparable between series 3 and any other Apple watch series is that no matter what extra you are trying to find on the Apple products, Apple will always amaze you with almost nothing. The only updated and new launch talks is about “talk about Apple” as a brand and not the technology. Hence, there is not much difference in apple watch series 3 heart sensor than series 5. Series 5 has second generation optical heart sensor while series 3 has optical heart sensor. Though not much difference has been felt while using the heart rate sensors for both the series watches.

Similarly, both the Apple watches has digital crown the slight difference in the series 3 and series 5 is that series 5 has haptic feedback with digital crown and series 3 has no haptic feedback with digital crown.

Coming to more features, Series 3 has 2 colours (black & silver) to offer, while series 5 has 3 to offer (black, silver and pink) in both GPS+Cellular and GPS models.

Series 3 has almost all the features as exact and expert as Apples’s series 5:

Like, they both have GPS/GNSS, Barometric altimeter, water resistant to 50 mm, optical heart sensors, emergency SOS, accelerometer unto 16 G-forces, Gyroscope, Ambient light sensor,

Speaker, microphone, ceramic and sapphire crystal back.

Overall it has everything except 2-3 features that’s an add on to series 5. With a major price difference of 15,000.

Which one to Buy Now ?

For me, after looking at the features, getting apple Watch series 3 on comparing to with Apple Watch Series 5 is all worth it, in terms of budgets as well as in terms of features. The only thing that can or will change my mind will be the display if that is not a major factor for you then this can be a good deal with a decent price of 20,900/-.

Coming from a family where every individual is a fan of certain ios or android product I get to take the taste of all. Recently my brother had got himself an Apple Watch Series 4, and I am excited about it. Though he had a totally differently approach on taking Series 4 than 3 or 5.
