It is a treat for our heart, skin, mind and mood. However, there is a very fine line between benefits and harm that chocolate can cause.
Chocolate contains cocoa which helps in reducing the risk of cancer and heart attacks. Chocolate consumption reduces cholesterol levels also. According to a report published by European Society of Cardiology, Paris, consuming chocolate could reduce the risk of heart attack by one-third. Cocoa contains a good amount of flavonoids which are naturally produced plant substances. These keep the platelets less sticky, hence decreasing the risk of heart attacks.
Chocolate reduces the risk of stroke. In a survey conducted in Canada, people who regularly eat chocolates had 22% fewer chances of stroke as compared to those who do not consume chocolates.
Chocolates help in developing razor sharp memory. Drinking two cups of hot chocolate milk daily helps in keeping the brain healthy. Hot chocolate help in blood flows in different parts of the body. Good blood circulation supplies oxygen in different parts of the brain which helps in generating energy, and hence more tasks can be performed efficiently. Chocolates also reduce chances of memory loss in old people.
Chocolates regulate blood flow in the body and ease blood vessels which bring down blood pressure. So it really good for people having high blood pressure or problem of hypertension.
Chocolates also help in mood-uplifting as it spikes the production of neurotransmitters which enhances mood.
The bioactive compounds in dark chocolate may also be great for our skin.
The dark chocolate can help us protect skin against sun-induced damage. It helps in improving the blood flow to the skin and thus increases skin density and hydration. It helps in keeping the skin smooth and soft.
An Amazing and good news for the ladies is that “Chocolate is high in antioxidants that help in keeping you young. Thus we can say that it contains anti-ageing properties too.” That means you can now have chocolate and still keep your skin younger looking for a long time. Chocolate also imparts a healthy glow to our face so finally, you have a very natural way to have a glowing face. It increases the production of collagen which lightens & diminishes the acne marks. It hydrates your skin and softens it thus helping in delaying the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on your face. It suits all skin types and is known to be one of the best ways to relax and rejuvenate oneself after a tiring week at work.
These may be the reason that chocolate facial or chocolate wax are preferred these days.
Chocolates are rich in minerals too. Yes, that is true and we have a list of minerals that you get after eating a bar of chocolate. Dark chocolate is packed with beneficial minerals such as potassium, zinc and selenium. If we consider a 100g bar of dark (70 percent or more) chocolate, it provides 67 percent of the RDA of iron. This is pure science and you simply cannot deny this. Now just go and grab a bar of dark chocolate with a reason to stay healthy.
Are you pregnant? If yes then you should surely know this fact: – “It is found that chocolate reduced stress level in expectant mothers and they smile more often.”
When we are stressed, our body signals out chemicals that raise our blood pressure and help us fight the stressor. These chemicals or hormones which are sent out to combat the blood pressure are stored in the brain (pituitary gland), the adrenal glands, and other parts of the nervous system which controls our behavior. A recent study looked at how the body responded to stress by measuring these chemicals in 31 men consuming dark chocolate versus 34 men that received a placebo chocolate that did not contain flavanols. The men then underwent a significant stress. The researchers found a significant effect of dark chocolate on these men as they showed lesser or lower levels of epinephrine after the stress. Although their brain response to stress was similar. However, the body’s response to the brain signals of stress was blunted.
We prefer dark chocolate since it has lower quantities of unhealthy ingredients, such as fat and sugar that add to cholesterol problems. Dark chocolate (70 percent cocoa) is the most beneficial variety of chocolate, and it packs loads of nutritious antioxidants.
