Wine tends to get most of the attention when it comes to the health benefits of alcohol.., but no more; I have gathered all the required info and prepared a list of health benefits that beer offers, if drunk in limits.
Beer contains a range of nutritional compounds that are very beneficial to the body. Beer has several B complex vitamins, such as B2, B12 and B6; several minerals elements including calcium, potassium, silicon, zinc, sodium, magnesium, niacin selenium and phosphorous. Not just these nutrients but it has zero fat and cholesterol and it has low levels of carbohydrates also.
I wanted to make this New Year celebration of you all more meaningful by giving you an extra reason to say cheers to all your friends with a glass of beer, so today I’ll be telling you the truth that was beyond your reach before today. Yes…!! The favourite health benefits of our favourite beverage – BEER.
- Keeps Heart Healthy:
Research has found that moderate beer drinkers have a 42 per cent lower risk of heart disease compared to non-drinkers. According to the study, arteries become more flexible and blood flow improves within hours when you drink a pint of beer. Although it’s good to note that the researchers suggest keeping consumption to one pint a day. Not just this, beer consumption is also associated with the good cholesterol (HDL) levels. Drinking moderate beer also results in an increase in HDL and a decrease in bad cholesterol (LDL) along with an improvement in both.
- Lowers the Risk of Diabetes:
This is another remarkable benefit of moderate beer consumption that it helps keep one of the most widespread disease away. The alcohol content in beer increases insulin sensitivity, which helps prevent diabetes. Moreover, beer is a good source of soluble fiber that plays an important role in the healthy diet of people suffering from diabetes. Researchers have found that those who drink moderate beer have 35% less risk of developing diabetes.
- Helps from Kidney Stone problem:
Alcohol has got a bad image of being hard on your kidneys, but beer can actually help in that department. According to the studies, beer can actually reduce your risk of kidney stones. Drinking beer helps slow down the release of calcium from the bones; too much calcium can cause kidney stones. Not just this way beer helps, but beer also has a high water content, which helps clear out those kidneys.
- Makes Bones Stronger:
Various studies have suggested that drinking beer helps protect bone mineral density. As mentioned above, beer contains silicon, specially dark beer contains more amount of silicon in it, which helps the body absorb and deposit calcium and other minerals into the bones to keep them strong.
- Improves Digestion:
Beer is particularly rich in fiber content; which is not there in wine. The high fiber content makes sure that your stomach is working fine and keeps all stomach related problems at bay. It helps in digestion process, keeps a check on constipation and not just this, it also helps avoid overeating, hence also helps weight management; contrary to what most of you must be thinking.
- Boosts Immunity:
Drinking beer can actually keep your body healthy. According to a study non-drinkers were three times more likely to catch a cold, than a moderate drinker. Beer is a good source of antioxidants; which protects our cells from damage and increases our body’s resistance against foreign elements that can cause disease. Thus, drinking beer boosts your immune system and help it fight off infection. But stick to just one a day, because heavy drinkers showed even less resistance against viruses than non-drinkers or moderate drinkers.
- Prevents Cancer:
Beer and Cancer?? Yes, it has been found that beer can actually help prevent cancer developing cells. Beer contains a flavonoid compound called Xanthohumol; which is linked to prevention of many cancers, including prostate. Xanthohumol is known to block the release of the PSA protein that is known to cause prostate cancer. Beers with a large amount of hops, have the most cancer-fighting properties.
- Keeps Head Clear:
Beer is also believed to make your head clear. Drinking the right amount of beer is good for your mental health. According to studies, those who drink moderate beer have fewer chances of developing Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disorder. Xanthohumol, a flavonoid compound found in beer is able to protect the brain from these degenerative diseases.
So, go ahead and grab that glass of beer and make this New Year party a healthy one, because now you know it is doing some good! Remember, to always drink in moderation, and be sure to get a non-drunk driver to get you home safely also.
