Why Personal Hygiene and Sanitation are Important for Good Health

Last Updated on January 25th, 2021
Personal Hygiene and Sanitation are 2 very important aspects of our day to day life that we must keep an eye on. Bad hygiene is the leading cause of many common & easily spreadable diseases. Keeping good hygiene can therefore reduce the chances of getting in contact with those health issues. Personal Hygiene includes many things like for instance washing your hands after every meal and before every meal to make sure you are not taking in bacteriaโs with your delicious food.

Why you need Personal Hygiene?
Personal Hygiene is the most effective way among many others to protect ourselves from many illness such as skin problems which is common and spread with simple contact.
Similarly there are many issues that arises because sanitation is not good. Poor sanitation like not having proper disposal of waste products or having an uncovered sewage around or bathroom sanitation not clean.
Water sanitation such as open water tanks, unflushed toilets can lead to many problems like common illness, bad odour, skin issues and many more to count.
The sanitation problems arises when the bacteria start building up at common locations like toilets, restrooms, bathrooms, dustbins, dumping grounds etc. These bacteria are very harmful and they show long stage health problems that may even include breathing issues.
One of the best way we can protect ourselves and others around us from poor health and illness is by having good personal and social hygiene. Washing hands when required, being careful not to cough or sneeze on others, keeping a personal level of protection when unwell or sick, putting items like used tissues in dustbin and using protections like hand gloves when required are some of the very common ways to have a personal level of hygiene.
Different Types of personal Hygiene that should be taken care, are discussed below.
Body Hygiene
Washing hands is one of the most important part of life that should be taken into consideration with priority. Many people ignore this and do not consider it as important as any other precaution which is a very wrong practice. One should always wash his hands before and after having a meal or going to toilet. Using a good toilet based soap which is especially used for hand wash should be used like Dettol etc. After handling dogs or other animals also one should wash his or her hands with soap and water and dry it with clean towel.

Bad body Odour is another important thing that should be looked into before it becomes a major problem. If your body is smelling really bad that means you need a bath and that too with a good body soap. A bad body odour not only brings bad health but also bad mood. Your mind suffers with bad odour and thus results in bad emotions and mood. You tend to stay unhappy and sad.
Bad Body smell are a reason of many factors which may contribute together or individually:
- Too much of sweating is one very common reason.
- Wastes excreted through the skin. Due to some already existing health issues people sometimes leak urine in their undergarments that leads to bad smell.
- Unwashed clothes, such as underwear and socks.

Personal hygiene for women which needs to be taken into consideration separately should be done. There are many cases in which women are not aware of what causes hygiene issues. Proper care should be taken during that time especially during the periods or the menstruation cycle.
Oral Hygiene
Bad breath is another personal hygiene that needs to be taken care.
Regular cleaning of teeth and tongue is really important in this case. One should brush his or her teeth twice in a day, one in the morning after waking up and other one at night before going to bed. Both timings are important because the morning brush ensures that no bacteria remains in your mouth that can cause bad breath while the night brush makes sure your teeth are clean after your last mean of the day. Any small piece here and there in your mouth can cause bad breathe and other dental problems like cavity.

Regular brushing and flossing is an important part of dental hygiene. Bad breathe can be caused due to many other reasons like problems of teeth, gums such as infection. Many food items also causes bad breath. Mouth wash after having a meal is the best way to avoid bad breath due to food.
Travel Hygiene
Another important Hygiene is the Travelling hygiene and we need to keep this clean as well.
We usually come across hygiene problems when travelling overseas or abroad. We are unaware of the local practices which is followed in that area. If you are not sure whether the water is safe or not then go for the bottled water for your common uses. If there is no other source then make sure the water you use, is actually boiled before you use it.
All these personal hygiene conditions are very important to be taken care of. Keeping a healthy personal hygiene reflect back into good health both physically and mentally.
