I never really understood my mother’s obsession with eating an avocado salad once a day. Sometimes I never felt like having it but still, she insisted. She was always very particular about it every single day. One day I decided to investigate about this lesser known fruit and put an end to that obsession. But the after effects of the investigation made me realize what that fuss was about. And mind you then I have been constantly convincing everyone about this and here is a piece of my detailed investigation.
So if you have seen this not so popular fruit ‘Avocado’ resembles a pear shape. It is grown in typically warmer climates. The interesting fact about avocado is that it is a unique type of fruit. Most fruits are high in carbohydrates but avocado is rich in fats… yes!! Fats but yes healthy fats.
These avocados are a full package of essential nutrients and fiber. It consists of 73% water, 15% fat, 8.5% carbohydrates and 2% protein. Imagine eating 1 avocado with your breakfast in the morning, you will head your day bang on.
It is even packed with vitamin k, potassium, folate (vitamin B9), copper, vitamin c, vitamin E, vitamin B6 and others. It fulfills your fiber requirement to an extent and also helps to eliminate various diseases.
The major health benefits of avocados are below:
- Avocados are healthy for heart
One of the most interesting facts about avocado is that it is majorly fat food. It is the only fruit that is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids that are not harmful to health. It is also considered safe for cooking.
You may even be surprised to know that 77% of the calories in avocados are fat. Since the oil in avocado are resistant to heat, it a good choice for people who suffer from heart problems. You can also cook your food in avocado oil. As it helps maintain healthy cholesterol level.
Avocado oil closely resembles that of olive oil.
- Avocados provide better eyesight
Yes don’t believe me but fact says that the avocados are known to protect eyes and maintain eye health. The two special chemicals lutein and zeaxanthin are important for eye health. The nutrients that are present in avocados are concentrated in tissues of eyes which help protect eyes from harm, especially ultraviolet rays.
They also protect eyes from developing muscular degeneration and other age related deformation.
- Avocados improves digestive system
Avocados are loaded with essential fibers. Avocados are also known to contain more fibers than any other fruit. You can find approximately 7 to 8 grams fiber in half an avocado. Natural fibers are good for the body. They help in regulating the appetite of a person and thus maintain overall health.
There are two types of fiber in avocado the soluble fiber and the insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber feeds the friendly bacteria in the gut which is important for the optimal health of your body which lowers the risk of many diseases.
- Avocados help in detoxification and weight loss
In my personal opinion eating an adequate amount of fiber is essential for any human who focuses on weight loss. Eating right is also important as we do need to maintain stamina for doing our daily chores. An adequate amount of fiber helps improve digestion thus cleaning the body from inside flushing out all the toxins. Thus, maintaining right metabolism which then helps in weight management.
The fibers present in avocados helps maintain a good bowel movement that removes toxins from the body. You should regularly consume it for at least a week to see any difference.
- Avocados help absorb nutrients from other food
Most of the nutrients human being intakes literally move out of the body from the digestive tracts unchecked and unused. All the nutrients that you intake need not be consumed by your body directly. Some of the nutrients are fat soluble meaning they need to be combined along with fats in order to get digested.
Eating avocados may help you essentially in digesting those nutrients that would otherwise go waste.
This should be applied especially in the case of veggies. When you take salad also ensure to include avocado or avocado oil along with it to maximize your benefit.
- Avocados help maintain healthy blood pressure
You may be surprised to know that avocados are a rich source of potassium. And Potassium is a nutrient which is not easily available from the natural source. Bananas are also rich in potassium but an avocado is a far rich source of potassium.
People with high blood pressure should inculcate it in their diet to improve their condition. Studies show that incorporating high potassium diet is proven to lower blood pressure level thereby reducing the risk of heart attack and organ failure.
- Avocados are a healthy Pregnancy diet
Pregnancy is the time where a woman need not only take care of herself, but she has to take care of the one in the womb as well. Thus, in such times requirement for nutrients increases. Since avocados are rich in iron, so helps prevent anemia; provide high quality calcium, thus provides required strength to muscles; moreover are full in vitamins, which are required for the optimum growth of baby. This makes Avocado a must eat fruit for pregnant woman.
- Avocado promotes libido
Avocado is one such fruit which is used to enhance sexual stamina and libido since ages. Many scientists have even claimed that eating avocado also improves sperm quality and may fight diseases like infertility in males. Potassium and omega 3 fatty acids help regulation of blood, thus blood reaches easily to all the parts including genitals and thus promotes stamina and libido.
No doubt an avocado is considered as super food. It is packed with all the essential nutrients needed for the healthy body.
One of the best benefits of avocado (and that, of course, is my personal favorite) is that it can be consumed in many ways. You can scoop it out and eat it raw, you can mix it with salad and you can even cook the way you wish to eat it. A whole package of nutrients packed with your personalized procedure of eating. What more can you wish for just go for it!!
